Nearly twenty-five years ago, H. G. (Buzz) Bissinger, then a young reporter for the “Philadelphia Inquirer,” moved to Odessa, Texas, family in tow, to follow the fortunes of the 1988 Permian High School football team. He hoped to write a celebratory treatment of a team and a town. The result: “Friday Night Lights,” a bestselling American classic that spawned the popular film as well as the series, considered by many one of the best on television.
The original book’s most compelling character was James “Boobie” Miles, and his experience in Odessa was, as Bissinger puts it in his daringly honest sequel “After Friday Night Lights,” “a symbol of everything that was wrong with high school football.” The complex friendship between subject and author has deepened over the years, and is, Bissinger writes, “the most lasting legacy of “Friday Night Lights,” or at least the legacy I care about most.”
Heading into the 1988 season, Miles looked like a star-in-the-making, a sure bet to ascend to college and the NFL. Abandoned by his mother, beaten by his dad, he had scraped through a rough upbringing, but it appeared that success on the field was soon to redeem his pain. Then, in a meaningless preseason scrimmage, Boobie blew out his knee. By midseason he was off the team, no longer needed by his coaches, who had found themselves a new running back.
“After Friday Night Lights”-an original 45-page story written to be read in a single sitting-follows Boobie through the dark years he suffered after his injury right up to a present that is imbued with a new kind of hope. It is the indelible portrait of the oddest of enduring friendships: that of a writer and his subject, a “neurotic Jew” and a West Texas oil-field worker, a white man raised in privilege

Murder follows murder while the officers attempt to unravel a thread of deceit that stretches across three generations. As they get closer to the truth, they learn that their investigation threatens to expose a cover up at the highest level of collegiate football.
And they learn that although blood may be thicker than water, money is thicker than blood.

Sometimes destiny has the last word (and laugh)
Fate thrust them togetherBlackmail and deception tore them apartNineteen years later, their children’s love reunites themNow, only truth and forgiveness can make them a family Margie Bradford is picking up the pieces of her shattered life following her husband’s death. When her cousin encourages her to make a fresh start with her teenage daughter, unsuspecting Margie takes a reading specialist job in the small town of Redemption, PA. The last person she expects to encounter is Rocket Manion, the ex-NFL quarterback and Dr. Phil wannabe who broke her heart nineteen years ago. Strangling her meddling cousin is now at the top of Margie’s to-do list. Divorced teacher and head football coach Jake Manion experiences an eerie sense of déjà vu when his son announces he’s gotten his girlfriend pregnant. The feeling simply grows stronger when Jake learns the girl’s mother is Maggie, the same woman on whom he’s wasted nearly two decades of bitterness. While planning their kids’ wedding and helping them grow up too soon, Jake attempts to pick up right where he left off–in Margie’s bed. But no matter how irresistible his kisses are, she isn’t stupid enough to let him hurt her again. Or is she?

Year in and year out the football powerhouse Hert City Trojans import a ringer to fuel their championship charge, but their luck is about to change. In the small backwater town of Tsalagee, first-year coach Donny Doyle knows the only way he can fulfill his promise to unseat the Hert City juggernaut, is to beat them at their own GAME. But in his own recruit, the mammoth and powerful, yet troubled and ominous Leotis McKinley, Doyle finds more than he bargained for. Truman’s character-rich novel GAME spins an energetic tale around the intensity of small-town high school football in America. And yet, amid the fast-paced drive of the story, lies an account of the human spirit struggling through adversity and finding victory. Readers of any age or gender will feel the triumph, honor, and glory that comes from the…GAME.“I couldn’t put it down. [GAME] is really well written and the action kept me going until the end.” - Fred W. Hoster, Executive Director, Dallas Fellowship of Christian Athletes“A masterly written tale of rural football. Each character is richly portrayed…you feel like you are on the sidelines with these kids. GAME goes way beyond the game of high school football.” – Brock Sawyer, Editor, Vype Magazine“I thoroughly enjoyed [GAME]. I will tell other coaches about this book.” – Gary Sanchez, President, New Mexico High School Coaches Association

Chris Spielman was a high school and Ohio State football legend and a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker, but he didn’t tackle his toughest opponent until his playing career was almost over. In 1998 his wife Stefanie was diagnosed with breast cancer, and so began an 11-year journey that brought joy and suffering to the Spielmans, as well as hope and inspiration to thousands of others. In That’s Why I’m Here, Spielman traces his storied career, recalls his courtship of Stefanie Belcher, cherishes the growth of their four children and invokes the deep spiritual faith that gave their family wisdom and comfort in times of struggle. Though there are plenty of on-the-field tales in the book, it’s not just for football fans. It’s for people whose lives have been touched by cancer, for people whose own faith has wavered, for people who want to meet a woman of tremendous beauty, grace and strength. Though Stefanie passed away on Nov. 19, 2009, her memory and inspiration live on. With laughter and tears, joy and heartbreak, this book lets you know her spirit is still here.

** NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE **
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU GOT A SECOND CHANCE?
When Scott Murphy scored the winning touchdown in the 1991 state championship game, it should have launched a golden future-the full scholarship to Ohio State, the million-dollar signing bonus, marriage to the beauty queen, and NFL glory.
Instead, it all ended with a sickening pop as his leg shattered in four places. The next twenty years would be a study in Murphy’s Law-whatever could go wrong did. Just when things seem at their worst-he’s losing his farm, his relationship with his wife is crumbling-a miracle happens: Murphy gets a chance to reboot his life.
Back in his teenaged body in 1991, he realizes by changing his past, he can have the future he always wanted. Everything he lost is within his reach, even his high-school sweetheart.
But what about the devoted wife he left behind? Torn between two women-two lives-he can only choose one future. Murphy must decide if getting everything he’s ever wanted is worth giving up everything he’s ever had…

As her holiday unfolds, however, she finds that not everything is going how she had planned. For instance, she never expected she’s have to help one friend fall in love. Nor did she ever think she would have to fight off Spanish models. And she most definitely never expected to have to know what in the hell the difference was between soccer and football.
